Millwall to host Community Day against Barnsley

8 April 2022

Millwall Football Club is excited to announce that it will host its annual ‘Community Day’ when Barnsley visit The Den on Saturday 9th April 2022.

An initiative which proved to be a huge success in its debut season, Community Day provides a platform for the club to showcase the wide variety of fantastic work performed by Millwall Community Trust – and 2022’s event is even bigger and better, with a long list of events taking place throughout matchday in SE16.

Principal partner Huski Chocolate have kindly and generously forfeited their shirt sponsorship for the day, meaning Millwall Community Trust’s logo will feature on the front instead. All matchworn shirts will be available for auction, amongst other items donated by Huski Chocolate and the club, as the Trust looks to also raise as much money as possible to assist with its ongoing delivery of community programmes.

In the build-up to the game, the Trust will use the Lions Centre and the club’s car park to showcase a small part of their work in the local community. Inside the Lions Centre, meanwhile, activities will be taking place.

Elsewhere, outside the Cold Blow Lane end, partner organisations of the Trust and club will have stalls to showcase their work. Participants of Millwall Community Trust Post-16 Student and Millwall's girls team will work alongside volunteers from other projects to drive a stadium-wide bucket collection* to raise funds for the charity, whilst a local DJ will play at the SE16 Bus Stop Band Stand before the game, and limited edition Millwall Community Trust wristbands and T-shirts will be given out around The Den.

The community action will continue on the pitch as Millwall's female and development centre players will provide a Guard of Honour.

Sean Daly, Millwall Community Trust CEO, said: "We want to build on the success of the last Community Day, showcasing the great work the club does in the local area. This is also a way to thank all who support the Trust; from players and club staff to fans, partners and the local community.

"As a self-financing charity, events like Community Day are so important in allowing us to continue our work in the local community, so please come and join in the celebrations."

You can find out more about all of the Trust’s different programmes and initiatives on their website www.millwallcommunity.org.uk.

*The bucket collection will be CASH ONLY, with 50% of the proceeds going to the Lions Food Hub and 50% going to Millwall Community Trust.
