Kit Out The Nation

9 September 2021

The BBC and Millwall Community Trust are joining forces to help children and families through the 'Kit Out The Nation' programme as part of the BBC’s 'Make A Difference' campaign.

'Kit Out The Nation' is a BBC month-long 'Make A Difference' campaign aimed at taking in and distributing unwanted, good condition sports kit and distributing it to children and teenagers who need it. The campaign will mirror the ‘Give A Laptop’ movement, working with partners around the country.

The issue around access to sport and exercise because of the affordability of kit is long known, and the situation has been compounded by the COVID-19 pandemic - so this is our chance to help to improve that.

The Department for Culture, Media and Sport Select Committee published a report on 29th July 2021, in which data shown from Sport England showed 100,000 fewer children met the recommended level of activity in 2020 than in 2019 - something that was "of significant concern."

Another benefit from this campaign is benefiting the environment by recycling good condition equipment that would otherwise go to landfills.

MCT wants to do its bit to help. From Saturday 4th September until Saturday 2nd October, The Trust is aiming to give kit and sports equipment to schools and clubs where young people may use it.

If you have any old or unused sports kit in good condition that can be passed on to a child in need, please donate at Millwall Community Trust, Lewisham Lions Centre, Bolina Rd, London SE16 3LD.

Together, we hope to help get the nation's young people more active.
