Sutton inch closer to history

Loan Watch...

17 May 2021

Isaac Olaofe scored his 15th goal of the season last weekend as Sutton United moved to within one win of a historic promotion to the EFL by defeating Maidenhead United 3-0.

The striker played 81 minutes and found the net alongside Louis John and David Ajiboye's goals to put the Gander Green Lane outfit three points clear of second-placed Torquay United, who could only manage a 2-2 draw at Stockport County, with two matches left to play.

The Gulls host struggling Barnet this weekend, whilst Sutton host Hartlepool United, who are set for a Play-Off berth.

The Bees - and Sam Skeffington - are up against it in the battle to save their Vanamara National League status after a 3-0 loss at Eastleigh on Saturday left them eight points from safety with four games to go.

Before visiting Plainmoor this weekend, Barnet must seek a victory as they visit Solihull Moors on Tuesday night.

Bromley, meanwhile, remain on the cusp of the Play-Off places as Tate Campbell equalised to ensure a 2-2 draw at Notts County last weekend. A Mark Ellis own-goal gave The Ravens the lead at Meadow Lane, but strikes from Kyle Wootton and Ruben Rodrigues turned the game on its head. Bromley were not to be denied, however, with Campbell claiming a point.

The Ravens sit level on points with Chesterfield, who occupy the last Play-Off position, with just two matches remaining - they travel to mid-table Aldershot Town this weekend.

In Scotland, James Brown played 90 minutes for St Johnstone as they guaranteed European football on the final day of the campaign by drawing 0-0 with Livingston.

Brown will now hope to finish his loan spell with Callum Davidson's side by appearing in the Scottish Cup Final against Hibernian at Hampden Park on Saturday afternoon.
