Millwall's Under 23s were 3-2 victors over Colchester United in the Professional Development League on Friday afternoon.
Goals from Arthur Penney, Tyler Burey (pen) and Sean O'Brien sent Millwall into a 3-0 lead, and despite two late Colchester goals, Kevin Nugent's side held on for a much-needed first win in nine matches.
The game was just 13 minutes old when Penney gave The Lions the lead, and their advantage was doubled on the half-hour as Burey converted from the spot.
O'Brien - a replacement for Connor Mahoney, who played 60 minutes on his return from injury - was on the field for just nine minutes before putting The Lions three to the good, but 76 and 85 minutes played respectively, the advantage was reduced to two and one and The U's mustered a fightback.
Nugent's side were, however, able to hang on and claim all three points.
Next up for Millwall's Under 23s is another away trip, this time to Bristol City, on Tuesday 30th March.
Millwall: Sandford, Moss, Tiensia, Duncan, Penney, Muller, Burey (Davis 46'), Skeffington, Alexander, Leahy (Ransom 87'), Mahoney (O'Brien 60'). Subs not used: Gillmore, Abdulmalik.
