Six goals at Calmont Road

Young Lions and Robins share the points...

15 March 2021

Millwall's Under 23s played out an entertaining 3-3 draw with Bristol City in the Professional Development League on Monday afternoon.

The Robins went into an early lead through Tommy Conway, but goals from Abdul Abdulmalik and Sean O'Brien turned the game on its head.

Louis Britton's double either side of half-time put Bristol City back in front, but Jack Leahy's volley with 15 minutes to go ensured a share of the spoils.

The opening goal came with just four minutes on the clock as Conway found the net from the edge of the penalty area with the first effort of the game.

George Nurse and Zac Smith went close as The Robins began to start well with Millwall flagging, but with 20 minutes on the clock, The Lions found an equaliser as a smart move across the 18-yard line was finished by the left foot of Abdulmalik.

Millwall should have nosed themselves in front six minutes later, but after Abdulmalik took Reuben Duncan's pass in his stride and squared for an unmarked Leahy, the winger struck wide.

With seven minutes to play until the break, Millwall were in front. Abdulmalik and Leahy combined once more, and after the latter's cross was blocked it seemed as though the attack was over, but O'Brien was first to the ball to curl home.

However, City's deficit lasted just three minutes, as Britton was quickest to the rebound to slot into the net after Ryan Sandford saved well from Owura Edwards' attempt.

The Robins were back in front - just - on 53 minutes as Britton once again pounced on a Sandford save to head the ball over the line despite an acrobatic clearance by Dan Moss, and with The Lions on the hunt for an equaliser, Abdulmalik broke through the last line of the defence to shoot with 73 minutes played, but the goalkeeper tipped wide.

Two minutes later, though, the sixth goal of the game was found as the ball broke to Leahy on the edge of the area, with the winger striking a sublime volley into the top corner.

There was time for one more chance, but in the third minute of stoppage-time, substitute Arthur Penney's header was cleared off the line.

Next up for Millwall's Under 23s is a trip to Notts County's Meadow Lane to play Nottingham Forest next Monday night.
