Millwall Football Club is delighted to announce Millwall Lionesses will be promoted to the fifth tier of the women’s football pyramid. The move will also see them go from the Eastern Region Women’s Football League (ERWFL) Division One South, to the London & South East Regional Women’s Football League Premier Division, for the 2021/2022 Season.
Following the news that the Lionesses will now be playing a lot more local to The Den, first team manager Katie Whitmore shared her delight at the news.
"The squad that have been with us over the last two seasons have worked incredibly hard in exceptionally difficult circumstances," she said.
"I’m delighted that our previous results have contributed towards the promotion to tier five. I want to thank them (the players) for all their hard work and I look forward to building, and working with, a squad that is capable of continuing our journey.”
A change of scenery also means a change in opposition, with the women's team taking on sides such as: Dartford, QPR and
Millwall Community Trust (MCT) CEO, Sean Daly, spoke after the move was confirmed and expressed his delight at the promotion for the club, adding: "since the Millwall Lionesses came back under the banner of the MCT, we have always strived and worked hard to get the club back to the levels it rightly deserves.
"I’m glad that the FA have taken into account the work both on and off the pitch when they reviewed the application. This is a great day for both the first team of the Lionesses, and the youth setups who see the first team as part of their footballing pathways.”
