Kevin Nugent praised an "important physical exercise" during Millwall's Under 23s' 2-0 pre-season friendly victory over Dulwich Hamlet on Thursday night.
Sean O'Brien and Tom Leahy scored in either half to give the young Lions the win at Champion Hill, in a game which saw a number of trialists feature.
"It's always nice to win games, but more important was the physical exercise," Nugent told millwallfc.co.uk. "We've had small numbers and a few trialists in, so we haven't had an opportunity to work on much, but it was really pleasing.
"It's the first game for them and some lads have played 45, some 90, but it was a lovely pitch and Dulwich have been really hospitable with us. Having a few fans in was fantastic as well.
"We're not getting carried away, but it was a good win for us - Dulwich are a good side. I've seen a few games of theirs and they're strong and competitive."
Next up for the Under 23s is a trip to Eastbourne Borough (Tuesday 27th July, kick-off 7pm), and Nugent has expressed his desire for more pre-season action ahead of the beginning of the 2021/22 Professional Development League campaign.
"Because numbers are reasonably small, we're looking at games and when we can fit them in. The boys will be fit and raring to go for the season, though, whatever the situation."
