Kevin Nugent thought his Under 23 side "deserved" their 1-0 win over Cardiff City on Friday afternoon.
Tyrese Briscoe scored the only goal of the game in the 37th minute to halt The Bluebirds' run of winning every game played so far this season.
"It was a deserved win," the boss told millwallfc.co.uk. "We played very well in the first-half, and that's against a team who had won every game up until now. It was nice for us to break that cycle.
"It was a really hard-fought game. In the second-half we weren't as good as we were in the first, but we still managed to find a way to win the game. At the same time, though, we still managed to create a few chances for ourselves. The goal came from a fantastic ball from Thommo and a nice cross from Kai."
With Alfie Allen and Sean O'Brien missing out through injury, Jayden Davis was deployed in a more central role - a place that his manager thought he excelled in.
"Jayden did well in the middle. We know he can handle the ball well when he gets on it. We thought that today, against a team of that quality, we needed a disciplined performance. We've got a lot of creative and attacking players, but we also need to make sure we have a nice balance behind the ball as well."
