Gary Rowett was pleased to get back to "real football" after Millwall began their 2021/22 Sky Bet Championship campaign with a 1-1 draw at Queens Park Rangers on Saturday afternoon.
Jed Wallace gave The Lions an early lead at the Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium, but Rob Dickie's equaliser ensured a share of the spoils in W12.
"Welcome back to real football!" the gaffer said to millwallfc.co.uk. "It was an exciting game to be a part of and it felt like a proper game of football that we haven't had for a long time.
"You're worried that the game is going to be a bit unpredictable because of that, but I thought we started really well in the first 20-25 minutes. We hit the crossbar, pinned them back, had some really good pressure and showed some of the patterns that we've worked on.
"But, they're a good side and they're going to get back into it. We score a good goal and have a couple of good moments in which we could a bit better with, but then they get back into the game."
