Kevin Nugent saw his players slip to a narrow Professional Development League defeat at Barnsley on Tuesday afternoon - but praised his side's ability to "physically compete" with The Tykes.
Aiden Marsh's 56th-minute goal gave the Yorkshire side all three points at the Barnsley Training Complex, but Nugent told millwallfc.co.uk of his pleasure in certain aspects of the performance, in which three young scholars completed the 90 minutes.
"It was a typical game that you'd usually get against Barnsley, they replicate the style of the first-team, so it was very competitive and physical," he said.
"I was pleased with the way our lads handled that overall, but we had a slight lapse in concentration which cost us the goal.
"It was another game in which we had a few opportunities, and had we had a better final ball we should've got something out of it. But, overall, it was good to see the lads pshyically compete against their style of play.
"It was also a good opportunity for some of the lads to come into the team from the younger age groups - we had three scholars who completed 90 minutes."
