Under 23s maintain unbeaten run

A first three points of the season...

29 September 2020

Millwall's Under 23s gained a first three points of the 2020/21 Professional Development League season on Monday afternoon by defeating Queens Park Rangers 2-1.

An own-goal and a George Alexander strike also kept up The Lions' unbeaten run this campaign, with two draws and a victory now to their name.

Ody Alfa netted a late consolation for Rangers, but Kevin Nugent's side held on to claim the win.

There was drama early on at The R's Harlington training ground as QPR were awarded a 7th-minute penalty followed Olamide Shodipo's tumble inside the area, however, Frank Fielding remained resolute to save Ryan Manning's spot-kick.

Manning struck the post a couple of minutes later, with the next action coming just two minutes into the second-half, as The Lions took the lead - Joe Gubbins inadvertently putting the ball into his own net.

Millwall were next to strike the woodwork on 71 minutes as Alexander's effort crashed off the crossbar and to safety, before the hosts found the frame of the goal for a second time just 120 seconds later through Aramide Oteh - his shot clipping the post and going wide.

Alexander kept up his record of scoring in every game so far this season - three goals in three matches - to double The Lions' lead on 80 minutes, and despite Alfa's late consolation, Millwall saw out the remaining moments to claim victory.

Next up for Millwall's Under 23s is a home game with near neighbours Charlton Athletic next Tuesday.
