Gary Rowett is looking to create a "sensible approach" to Saturday's Carabao Cup First Round tie at Crawley Town.
The Lions take on The Red Devils at The People's Pension Stadium this weekend (kick-off 1pm) for a place in Round Two, and the boss told millwallfc.co.uk how despite the fixture being of a competitive nature, "conditioning" and "minutes" will be in the management's minds ahead of the Sky Bet Championship opener against Stoke City on 12th September.
"We'll approach it like we always would," he said. "You want to try and create a winning culture and do the right things with the right mentality, no matter what game it is.
"We want to go out there and put a performance on, but at the same time, we're also aware that the Cup game is a week early, so therefore, we have to create a sensible approach to it. There's an element of conditioning, but in a competitive scenario.
"We want to win the game, but we'll still be thinking about minutes for players. However, we want to combine that with a performance. The result wasn't the be all and end all [against Crystal Palace], and I don't necessarily think it will be this weekend either."
