The boss outlines Stoke challenge

Hear from Gary Rowett...

11 September 2020

Gary Rowett is expecting a tough afternoon on Saturday as Stoke City visit The Den - but has asked his players to look after themselves first in a bid to gain three Sky Bet Championship points.

The 2020/21 campaign begins with The Lions taking on The Potters in SE16 (kick-off 3pm), and when speaking to, the gaffer described Michael O'Neill's side, and Saturday's encounter, by saying: "It'll be tough. Defensively, they are very strong and don't give too many gaps or too much to play with in terms of space. They're very disciplined and a battle-hardened side.

"They've got a lot of Championship and Premier League experience, and they are big and physical. There are certain things we'll have to do really well to hurt them, but there will also be certain things we'll have to do really well to make sure they don't hurt us.

"I expect it to be a really tough game, but it doesn't matter who you play first, it's always going to be tough. There's the unexpected, and you don't know how you're going to start yourself. All we have to do is look after ourselves and try to perform, but also be respectful of the qualities which Stoke possess."
