Millwall marked the return to competitive football with a win in the cup this afternoon and striker Matt Smith was impressed with the attitude shown by the players against Crawley Town.
Goals from Scott Malone, Jake Cooper and Matt Smith booked The Lions' place in the draw for Round Two of the Carabao Cup, rounding up a comfortable afternoon in Sussex.
Getting off the mark for the season, Smudger described it as a "great feeling" to be back amongst the goals and playing football competitively once again.
Speaking to millwallfc.co.uk, he said: "For a centre forward to get off the mark early is a great feeling and now I've got that one put away we'll crack on and get some more.
"We applied ourselves really well, kept the ball moving well and kept it ticking over. There was a good tempo about us and I thought we were strong in both boxes."
