In 1996, David Beckham shocked the footballing world by scoring from the halfway line in a win for Manchester United at Wimbledon. In 2020, Jake Cooper was a lick of paint away from doing the same for Millwall at Wycombe Wanderers.
With The Lions 2-1 up in the second-half at Adams Park, the defender looked to take advantage of a free-kick from just inside the Chairboys half with Ryan Allsop way off his line.
In what seemed like slow motion, the ball travelled half the length of the field and looked to be dropping into the net for a sensational goal, but it instead smacked the crossbar before bouncing to safety - seconds after Allsop has deconstructed the net in his attempts to get back and save.
Cooper spoke to millwallfc.co.uk about that feat after the weekend's win - and you can hear what he had to say by clicking play on the video above.
