Looking Back: The Lions win Division Two

On This Day in 2001...

Apologies, this video is unvailable.

On 5th May 2001, The Lions produced a five-star performance to win the Division Two title at The Den.

The 2000/01 season began on rocky ground with the removal of stalwarts Alan McLeary and Keith Stevens from the hotseat, but new boss Mark McGhee's charges went on to spend the majority of the remainder of the campaign at the summit of the third tier.

Promotion was secured courtesy of Tim Cahill's header in a 1-1 draw at Wrexham seven days previously, with Oldham Athletic lambs to the slaughter in SE16 as The Lions secured the points needed to claim the trophy in front of their own fans.

You can now watch the full 90 minutes from that day by clicking play on the video above - from Neil Harris in full flow to Steven Reid's thunderbolt and everything in between, it was a day to remember for all involved. There's even some post-match celebrations as an added bonus!
