Manager Gary Rowett has been full of praise for Mahlon Romeo and Billy Mitchell after the pair committed their long-term futures to the club.

The Lions announced on Monday afternoon that the pair had put pen-to-paper on new contracts which will keep them at The Den for the foreseeable future.

"His qualities are there for everyone to see..."

Gary Rowett on Mahlon Romeo...

Full-back Mahlon Romeo signed for The Lions back in 2015 and scored on his debut for the club against Walsall in a 3-0 win.

The 24-year old has been a regular starter for Rowett this season and the gaffer feels the new contract for Romeo is a well-earned reward for his form.

"He's been fantastic," he said. "He's one of those players I really like, he's a really relaxed guy. He's quite chilled out and I think sometimes what he's done better this season is he has flicked that switch when he's gone out on the pitch.

"He's been very aggressive defensively. I think he's naturally going to be more attacking than he is a defensive right-back because that's his strengths. He's very athletic, he gets forward and links brilliantly with Jed.

"I think he's really improved his defensive side of his game. He's performed really really well."

"When we first came in he was the standout player in the under 23s..."

Gary Rowett on Billy Mitchell...

Young midfielder Mitchell has certainly caught the eye of the gaffer since he was appointed manager.

The 18-year old has made five appearances in all competitions so far this season for The Lions, with his last appearance coming in Millwall's Emirates FA Cup tie against Sheffield Untied back in January.

Committing his future to The Den, Rowett has been impressed with the youngster and believes he has a bright future at the club.

"Billy's done really well. When we first came in he was the standout player in the Under 23s, simply because his attitude was unbelievable.

"Every game you knew what you were going to get from him, he's a little bit of a leader and he's a bit of a voice. He's quite a feisty character.

"He's been very unfortunate at the moment not be more involved. When you get to this stage of the season sometimes a bit of experience is required, but he's going to be a big player for us come down the line."
