The Sky Bet Championship takes its second short break over the coming days, as many international matches are played – including two rounds of crucial UEFA Euro 2020 qualifying fixtures. As many of the Millwall squad continue to prepare for the recommencing of the League season at Calmont Road, we take a look at the Lions representing their nations this week.
Shane Ferguson – Northern Ireland
Our home nations representative, Shane Ferguson, has again been called up by Northern Ireland manager Michael O’Neill for the Green and White Army’s Euro 2020 qualifier at the Netherlands this Thursday night, followed by a friendly contest in Prague against Czech Republic on Monday. The clash against the Dutch outfit in Rotterdam is a crucial one for Shane and the Northern Irish side, who sit second in Group C with a three-point advantage over the Netherlands, who have a game in hand. Shane earned his 40th senior cap in his nation’s last victory against Luxembourg.
Jon Dadi Bodvarsson – Iceland
Jon Dadi Bodvarsson remains The Lions’ most capped international with 44 Iceland appearances, and the striker has again been named for his country’s matches against France and Andorra by manager Erik Hamren. Jon got his name on the scoresheet in a win over Moldova during last month’s international break, and prepares for two home fixtures on Friday and Monday against the Frenchmen and Andorrans respectively. Iceland sit three points behind the top two with four qualifying games remaining in Group H.
Jayson Molumby, Danny McNamara – Republic of Ireland U21
Jayson Molumby and on-loan Danny McNamara have been called up once more by Stephen Kenny to the Republic of Ireland Under 21 squad, for the nation’s Under 21 European Championship qualifiers at home to Italy and away at Iceland. Jayson is expected to again captain the side following an excellent showing as the Irish youngsters continued their 100% record, whilst Danny – currently a regular on loan with Newport County – will be hopeful of a debut in the green shirt at Under 21 level after featuring on the bench twice.
Look out for next week’s International Round-Up for a detailed look at how our lads fared on duty for their national teams.
