A last-gasp header from George Alexander handed Kevin Nugent's young Lions a share of the spoils at The Den on Tuesday afternoon as Millwall's Under 23s drew 1-1 with Crewe Alexandra.
The contest was one of few major chances, but the in-form substitute secured a point four minutes into added time in SE16, cancelling out Oliver Finney's first-half opener.
With the match starting 30 minutes late at The Den due to traffic difficulties faced by the visitors, proceedings finally got underway with a cagy opening, as Crewe came closest to opening the scoring with Josh Lundstram forcing Dave Martin into a near-post save.
Millwall, with several first-team players featuring at some stage in the fixture, saw plenty of the ball in an even first half-hour, but found themselves trailing when a soft backpass allowed striker Regon Griffiths through on goal. Martin excellently stopped the Alexandra man, but Finney was on hand to take his time and plant the ball high into The Lions' net.
Nugent's men did threaten before the break, with Tom Elliott and skipper Harry Donovan seeing efforts off target, before Lewis White curled a promising free-kick into the side netting on the cusp of half-time.
Fred Onyedinma was one of the second half's livelier players, seeing successful surges forward come off down the right channel. A cross from his side found Aiden O'Brien at the back post midway through the half, but the Irishman unselfishly looked to lay on Elliott rather than taking aim himself and Crewe were able to clear.
With Crewe looking organised and heading towards three points in South London, Alexander put an end to the Cheshire outfit's hopes with a terrific looping header to connect with a great ball from the left-hand side, nodding home off the far post.
The young Lions next look to go one better when they take on Birmingham City a week on Saturday.
