Cooper: "We've been building over some time now"

Defender gives his take on a memorable night at The Den against Everton

Jake Cooper has reflected on a terrific victory over Everton in the Emirates FA Cup Fourth Round at The Den on Saturday, and says the level of performance among the Millwall squad must continue.

Cooper claimed a vital goal and an assist in the comeback win, and commends the way the team 'dug in' to recover from Marco Silva's side's lead.

"It was a great win, really," the defender says.

"The boys dug in, and everyone could see our mentality in the dying minutes. We're absolutely thrilled to get over the line, and overall it was a great performance.

"Everton scored two goals, and we're a bit disappointed with those - especially the second one - but we did enough in the performance to win the game."

The 23-year-old says The Lions have been building in recent weeks, and that the results are showing for the hard work on the training field.

"We've been building over some time now. We had a great Christmas period and have improved in our displays on the pitch.

"The style of our play recently and our level of performance shows that we can keep kicking on."

Cooper's equalising goal was his sixth of the season, and he is keen to carry on his important shift for Neil Harris' team this campaign.

"I'll take another goal and an assist, definitely,"

"When the luck goes for you, it goes for you. I'm just so happy to be continuing to contribute to the team this season."

With Rotherham United visiting The Den next Saturday in a crucial Sky Bet Championship contest, and Cooper says the buzz around Calmont Road can help fire The Lions to success in the League.

"There's a great atmosphere now around the training ground and in the dressing room, and we really need to maximise on that and take it into next week.

"The key game is our massive one next weekend against Rotherham, and we have to focus on that and make sure we come out with the same level of performance."

Cooper finally claims he would favour a home tie in an eagerly anticipated Fifth Round draw on Monday.

"We'll take anyone at home in the next round. We know we can beat anyone at The Den."
