Millwall's Williams nets first international goal

Midfielder on target for Republic of Ireland

7 September 2018

Millwall midfielder Shaun Williams scored his first goal for the Republic of Ireland on Thursday night.

The 31-year-old - a second-half substitute for Conor Hourihane - stole possession from Arsenal's Aaron Ramsey before executing a superb dink over Crystal Palace keeper Wayne Hennessey and into the net.

Unfortunately for Williams and his fellow countrymen is turned out to be a consolation strike as Wales ran out 4-1 winners at the Cardiff City Stadium. Fellow Lion Aiden O'Brien was an unused substitute.

Other Millwall players hoping to feature for their countries during the international break will be Conor McLaughlin and Shane Ferguson as Northern Ireland prepare for fixtures against Bosnia & Herzegovina and Israel on Saturday and Tuesday respectively. Jordan Archer's Scotland face Belgium on Friday night, while Mahlon Romeo will hope to feature for Antigua and Barbuda against St Lucia on Saturday.
