George Saville says it's a challenge for everybody at Millwall to raise their standards in order to progress even further in next season’s Sky Bet Championship.
The Lions have surpassed all expectations following promotion from League One last term, lying eighth in the table going into their final game of the 2017/2018 campaign tomorrow - where they entertain Aston Villa.
“From the day I came in there was expectations at this club, but we’ve gone way above and beyond those,” he told millwallfc.co.uk.
“We’ve had a really good season, the unity within the group has just got better and better – it’s a great place to be at the moment.
“It will be an even bigger challenge next season. It's a challenge for us as players, but also for the board and the management as well, in terms of the personel they look to bring in and the players they choose to let go.
“We need to keep the momentum going, and in order to do that we’ve got to strengthen the squad. As a group we're really looking forward to next season."
Saville has been a stand-out performer for Neil Harris' men this season, notching 10 goals in the process. But the midfielder said his job has been made a lot easier due to the influence of team-mate Shaun Williams.
He added: "With the formation we play it’s not easy to get into the box but with the likes of Willo behind me it’s given me the licence to go forward and kind of play as a false No 10.
“I think he’s been unbelievable this season. He’s not underrated, but he doesn’t get the headlines that others do."
The Lions host Steve Bruce's men in front of a sold-out Den tomorrow (kick-off 12:30pm). After the game, the club asks that you stay in your seats and give the squad that have given supporters many moments to remember this season a chance to undertake a well-deserved lap of honour.
