Millwall Football Club can confirm that its U18 side will be participating in an exciting pre-season trip to Spain organised by League Football Education (LFE).
The young Lions will hone their skills in training sessions led by European coaches and face challenging matches against some of Spain’s top youth academies such as Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid and Sevilla.
U18 coaches Larry McAvoy and Chris Perry, along with fellow Academy staff Kenny Brown, Darren Stern, Tom O’Neill and Sam Percival will lead their side to their base in Madrid – welcomed by Spanish clubs Leganes and Rayo Majadahonda on Sunday 29th July, with players experiencing local cultural activities such as language lessons and stadium tours alongside their footballing schedule before their return on Friday 10th August.
Erasmus+ are fully subsidising the trip, which is designed to help exchange skills and ideas between the two nations’ players and coaches. Alongside Millwall are five additional EFL clubs: Bolton Wanderers, Bury, Milton Keynes Dons, Morecambe and Norwich City – all based in various areas of Spain.
LFE Project Manager Dan Jolley said: “This initiative meets the cultural and sporting aims aligned to Erasmus+ and at the same time allows over one-hundred players in the English academy system the opportunity to sample life, training and work in another European nation.
“Many of them will experience playing against continental opposition for the first time. Learning about different styles of play, coaching and tactics can only help them become better players.”
