Millwall Football Club sends our condolences to the family of our former player and Assistant Manager Ray Wilkins who passed away on 4th April 2018, aged 61.
Ray made his Lions debut against Colchester United in January 1997 at the age of 40, towards the end of an illustrious playing career, but it was as assistant to manager Dennis Wise that he made his biggest impact at The Den, helping the club reach the FA Cup Final in 2004 for the only time in our history, with a 1-0 Semi-Final victory over Sunderland ironically coming 14 years ago to the day.
Ray was an influential and popular coach, and everyone connected with Millwall joins the wider football community in remembering and paying tribute to him on this sad day.
Lions chairman John Berylson said: "Ray Wilkins was a great football man and played an important role in our FA Cup run in 2004. I know both our manager Neil Harris and assistant Dave Livermore had great affection and respect for Ray, and his loss will be deeply felt by many people. We will be holding a minute's applause in memory of Ray prior to Saturday's match against Bristol City."
