What The Papers Said

Round-up from Den victory over Leeds...

19 September 2017

Millwall registered their second Sky Bet Championship victory of the 2017/18 season on Saturday afternoon as they defeated rivals Leeds United 1-0, courtesy of Aiden O'Brien's 73rd-minute strike.

The performance from The Lions was hailed as one of the great Den days, with the home side racking up 20 attempts on goal during a 90 minutes in which the League leaders failed to trouble Jordan Archer.

Here's what the papers had to say after Saturday's win...

"Millwall stunned [Leeds] with a performance of terrific pace and urgency and ought to have won by more than Aiden O'Brien's late goal," said The Daily Mail.

Meanwhile, The Telegraph claimed that the victory over The Whites was "Millwall's best performance of the season by far."

The tabloid went on to say: "The pressure was intolerable and finally Millwall got the goal they deserved. Fred Onyedinma wriggled free and slid the ball across the box for Aiden O’Brien to finish."

Saturday's clash "pulsed to the beat of an old rivalry resumed" according to The Mirror, who echoed the thoughts of many in that The Lions "outplayed" their opponents and should have won by a greater margain.

"At times in the first half, Harris' side threatened to run riot," they said. "Steve Morison had the ball in the net just six minutes in after Conor McLaughlin’s effort was spilt, but celebrations were curtailed by the linesman's flag."

Both sides' local news outlets were equally complimentary about Neil Harris' outfit, with the Yorkshire Evening Post commenting that Leeds were "caught cold by Millwall's aggression," with the South London Press stating that anything other than a Lions win would have been "a total injustice."
