Preview | Sunderland v Millwall

A look ahead to Saturday's Championship meeting...

16 November 2017

Millwall return to Sky Bet Championship action this Saturday afternoon as they take on Sunderland at the Stadium of Light (kick-off 3pm).

Following November's international break, The Lions head north to take on a Black Cats side struggling at the wrong end of The Championship table following relegation from the Premier League last season.

Millwall will look to register their first away win of the campaign, whilst managerless Sunderland are seeking a first home win in 2017.

Neil Harris will be unable to call on the services of Jed Wallace this weekend, as the winger starts his three-match suspension following his red card in the 1-0 defeat to Burton Albion at The Den last time out.

Shaun Williams and Byron Webster remain the only other absentees in an otherwise fully-fit squad.

Saturday's meeting will be the 37th between the two, with Sunderland slightly holding the upper hand, with 15 wins to Millwall's 13.

The last meeting was on Bonfire Night in 2005, as a penalty from Dennis Wise and a goal from assistant manager David Livermore gave The Lions a televised 2-0 victory.

Kevin Muscat turned the ball into his own net in the last game on Wearside earlier that season, but Millwall fared better the previous year, as Noel Whelan scored the only goal in a 1-0 win at the Stadium of Light.

Of course, no mention of Sunderland can go by without mentioning 4th April 2004 - Tim Cahill's goal sent The Lions through to their first-ever FA Cup Final in a 1-0 success at Old Trafford.

Around 1,500 fans will back the boys in the north east, but if you aren't making the long journey, full match commentary will be available on iFollow Millwall from around 2.50pm. Overseas subscribers, meanwhile, can watch the action LIVE on iFollow. Click here for more details.
