Dynamic duo to partner in attack...Millwall Legends v PWRR Tigers
Sunday 14th May
Charity match in aid of veterans of wounded servicemen
Teddy Sheringham and Neil Harris will partner each other in attack for the first time in Millwall's history on Sunday 14th May as a Millwall Legends side take on the Princess of Wales' Royal Regiment.
Under the watchful eye of Les Briley (manager), club legends including Maik Taylor, Sean Sparham, Jimmy Carter and Gary Alexander will compete in this one-off charity match, set up to raise vital funds in support of veterans and wounded servicemen and to honor the fallen heroes of their forebear Regiments.
The PWRR has a strong footballing history; not least due to the efforts of its forebear Regiments during the First World War, with the 17th Battalion of the Middlesex Regiment being known as the Football Battalion, due to its core of hundreds of professional players.
Separately, Captain WP Nevill of the East Surrey Regiment famously ordered footballs to be kicked into No Man's Land at the Battle of the Somme as a way of encouraging the troops. Though Nevill was sadly killed leading the charge, two of the balls were later found - and we were honored to have the last remaining 'Nevill Football' on display during this charity event.
Former Colour Sergeant Brian Wood MC will lead the Regimental team during the match. A keen footballer, Brian represented the Regiment in the Inter-Services competition and was part of the Combined Services team. He served with the PWRR for 16 years and was awarded the Military Cross, one of Britain's highest military honors, in recognition of his supreme bravery during that time.
Joined by serving and ex-military personnel, Brian and his team-mates are ready to prove their worth as they go toe-to-toe with Millwall greats.
The Millwall Legends v PWRR Tigers charity match is an opportunity to raise funds to support veterans and soldiers who face life-altering situations as a result of serving our country, as well as those who are finding it difficult to adjust to life after military service or just need a helping hand from an organisation they can trust.
General sale tickets are on sale now and are priced at £10 adults, £5 seniors (60+) and £3.50 children. They can be purchased at millwalltickets.com and at PWRR.org.uk. VIP packages to meet the team are also available.
