"We can't wait to get back and embrace Championship football," says O'Brien

The Irishman looks ahead to the new campaign...

19 June 2017

"I'll take anyone at The Den on the first day of the season - we won't be an easy team to beat there" - that's the view of Millwall striker Aiden O'Brien ahead of fixture release day.

The fixtures for The Lions' 2017/18 Sky Bet Championship campaign will be revealed on at 9am on Wednesday morning and despite the shorter than usual break between seasons, O'Brien told that he and his team-mates can not wait to get back and "embrace" Championship football.

"It was a massive achievement for us as a club and for the players to win at Wembley - especially the ones that hadn't won anything before," he said. "We loved it, we all celebrated, but we can't wait to get back now and embrace Championship football - it's going to be one hell of a ride."

Millwall will tackle the likes of Sunderland, Leeds United and Aston Villa next season in the second tier, but the Irishman stated that the squad will focus more on themselves than the opposition.

"There's huge names on the list, but we've just got to do what we do, concentrate on pre-season and training and make sure we're gelled and ready to go as a team.

"The friendlies will show if we're doing everything right and then come the first game of the season - which will hopefully be at home - we can get off to a flying start.

"I hope we're at home on the first day. There's nothing better than The Den pumping and it would be just that if we were at home. I'll take anyone - we won't be an easy team to beat this season.

"It's going to be a step up, but we've got to embrace it. We've got to listen to our coaches and get ourselves as fit as possible. We need to do what we have been doing in League One and hopefully, in The Championship, it will pay off."
