Millwall manager Neil Harris has issued an update on the progression of contract offers and transfers ahead of the beginning of pre-season in late June.
Shaun Williams committed his future to the club for a further year - with the option of a second - on Tuesday afternoon and the manager explained to millwallfc.co.uk how the club are looking to "re-negotiate" with existing members of the squad as well as recruiting fresh faces.
"We're getting closer all the time," he said. "Work during the back end of last season has got us into a really good place. Re-negotiating with current players is always a big part of that. Shaun [Williams] has been done and that's absolutely vital, whilst talks are ongoing with Jimmy Abdou and Fred Onyedinma.
"At one point it looked as though we may lose Fred, but now it looks as though we may be able to keep him. That's what we want. He is a talented boy with a very bright future - we want that to be at this club. We want to continue working with him.
"New faces wise, we're very close to completing two. James Meredith has been well publicised and we're very pleased with that. Things are progressing nicely. We're trying to be competitive this year and bring players in with Championship experience that are of a good age - that's vital for us."
