Lions on the prowl: October and November

Part two of our season review...

14 June 2017

October began with a 2-1 defeat at Walsall, but a reverse of the same score-line in a Checkatrade Trophy Group Stage victory over Gillingham set The Lions on the right path once more.

A superb 3-1 success at Northampton Town lifted the club away from danger and despite a 2-0 loss at home to Bolton Wanderers threatening to dampen spirits, two 2-1 wins over Fleetwood Town and Oxford United took Millwall within just three points of a Play-Off spot.

The magical Emirates FA Cup run began in earnest in November as Mahlon Romeo's late winning goal dispatched Southend United, whilst Harry Smith made his name as The Lions completed a perfect Checkatrade Trophy Group Stage record with a 3-1 victory at Luton Town.

The goals continued to flow as 10-man Bristol Rovers were beaten 4-0 at The Den, but The Trotters were to once more prove a stumbling block as a side packed with former Lions were again to be 2-0 victors.

Paul Robinson returned to The Den in a goalless draw with AFC Wimbledon, with November finishing in dramatic style at Gigg Lane - James Vaughan's double sent Bury two to the good with just 20 minutes remaining, but an incredible turnaround, courtesy of a Shaun Williams penalty, Calum Butcher's first goal for the club and Aiden O'Brien's injury-time winner secured a priceless three points, leaving The Lions in 9th position with the Christmas period looming.
