Report | Dartford 1-1 Millwall

Our take on Princes Park draw...

8 July 2017

Ben Thompson's second-half leveller secured a 1-1 draw for Millwall in their opening pre-season friendly at Princes Park against Dartford on Saturday afternoon.

Millwall boss Neil Harris utilised 23 players from his squad on a hot and humid afternoon in Kent, with summer signings James Meredith, Tom Elliott, Jed Wallace and George Saville all featuring.

There was less than a minute on the clock when Millwall fashioned their first chance of the afternoon. Summer signing Saville's low free-kick was tipped wide by Deren Ibrahim for a corner.

Eight minutes in, The Darts had an effort of their own, but Romaric Logan's vicious shot flashed wide of the post.

Four minutes later, The Lions were presented a golden chance to take the lead through captain Steve Morison, but the striker blazed over with the goal at his mercy.

Lyle Della Verde forced Tom King into a sharp stop just before the 20-minute mark, but a mistake from the goalkeeper on 31 minutes allowed Dartford to open the scoring through Logan.

Morison's through-ball set the lively Fred Onyedinma away on 42 minutes, but the attacker's shot was saved by Ibrahim in the last real action of the first-half.

The second-half was five minutes old when Wallace, returning to the club for a third time, skimmed a cross across the face of goal, but there was no Millwall boot or head able to connect and equalise.

The new XI upped the ante and could have equalised on 54 minutes, but Kris Twardek and Tony Craig's goal-bound shots were both expertly blocked by Richard Sho-Silva. Shaun Williams also volleyed wide shortly before the hour-mark.

On 64 minutes, The Lions levelled through Thompson. Mahlon Romeo fed the midfielder, who struck left-footed from around 25 yards out past the despairing dive of Ibrahim.

Elliott was proving a nuisance to the Dartford defence throughout the second-half and nearly edged The Lions on front on 71 minutes, but his glancing header was blocked by Ibrahim.

A host of Dartford substitutions gave the game a distinctly pre-season feel midway through the second-half, with Thompson's shot over the crossbar with three minutes remaining the only effort of note as the game ticked away.
