Sid Nelson joins Newport County on loan

4 January 2017

Lions defender signs for League Two side until the end of the season

Millwall defender Sid Nelson has today penned a standard loan deal with League Two side Newport County until the end of the 2016/17 season, subject to international clearance.

Sid, who celebrated his 21st birthday on 1st January, has featured 38 times for The Lions since making his debut against Bournemouth as an 18-year-old in December 2014.

He has made eight starts for Neil Harris' senior side this season, but seen his chances of regular first team action reduced by the return of Shaun Hutchinson, who has partnered Byron Webster in the middle of defence for the last four games.

Sid is expected to go straight into Newport's squad for their League Two clash at Stevenage on Saturday. County are currently bottom of the table and five points adrift of safety.

He becomes the third Lions player to move out on loan this week, joining goalkeeper Harry Girling (Welling United) and winger Gregg Wylde (Northampton).
