Millwall 0-0 Walsall

1 February 2017

Our take on events at The Den...

Millwall and Walsall played out a 0-0 draw on Wednesday night at The Den.

Neil Harris made two changes to the starting XI that claimed a second Premier League scalp of the season against Watford last Sunday, with Jed Wallace - coming in for his second full debut - and Shane Ferguson replacing Fred Onyedinma and Aiden O'Brien, who both dropped to the bench.

There was just a minute on the clock when Millwall carved out their first opportunity. A neat passage of play ended with Tony Craig crossing into the box, but Wallace could only head wide of the post.

A bout of pinball following a Shaun Williams corner three minutes saw Lee Gregory fire over as The Lions began the game in the ascendancy.

Florent Cuvelier had The Saddlers first shot in the 9th minute but, despite a slight deflection, it nestled comfortably into the arms of Jordan Archer.

Shortly after the twenty-minute mark, Ferguson's cross found Steve Morison on the edge of the six-yard box, but he steered his header wide.

Wallace and Gregory combined to almost hand The Lions the lead on 24 minutes, but the striker's cross agonisingly flew across the box, evading everyone.

A magnificent cross from Wallace found Morison six yards out nine minutes from the break, but he just couldn't connect properly with his header, sending it over the bar.

After an uneventful first-half came to a close, the first shot of note in the second came from The Saddlers, as Joe Edwards shot wide.

On 66 minutes, Harris introduced O'Brien and Onyedinma into the play, as they replaced Ferguson and Wallace. Ex-Lion Simeon Jackson also entered the fray with just over 20 minutes to go.

O'Brien's shot fizzed over the bar with nine minutes remaining in the last notable action of the night.
