Preview | Aston Villa v Millwall

A look ahead to Millwall's trip to Villa Park...

8 December 2017

Millwall will go in search of their first away win of the 2017/18 Sky Bet Championship campaign as they take on Aston Villa this Saturday afternoon at Villa Park (kick-off 3pm).

Last weekend's 3-1 success over Sheffield United gave The Lions their first three-point haul in seven games and Neil Harris' side will now look to build on that as they head to Villa.

With the same squad to select from, the manager will perhaps have just one conundrum to solve in his starting XI at right-back.

Conor McLaughlin missed the win over The Blades through suspension, allowing Mahlon Romeo to step in and stake his claim by scoring Millwall's second goal.

Fred Onyedinma is set to miss out once more through injury, whilst Shaun Williams is nearing a return to first team action. Byron Webster remains a long-term absentee.

The two clubs will meet for the 32nd time this weekend and for the first time at Villa Park since a League Cup tie in October 1990.

On that occasion Villa ran out 2-0 winners, with The Lions' last victory B6 coming in November 1987, as Tony Cascarino and Les Briley were on target in a 2-1 win.

The most recent meeting came in the FA Cup in January 2013, on Millwall's run to the Semi-Finals, where they eventually lost to Wigan Athletic at Wembley Stadium. Darren Bent gave Premier League side Villa the lead, but The Lions equalised soon after through Danny Shittu. John Marquis scored a last-minute winner to send the club through to Round Four.
