Byron Webster cannot wait for Millwall to start life in the Sky Bet Championship.
The defender, entering his fourth season at The Den, will battle for one of two centre-back slots in 2017/18 with Jake Cooper and Shaun Hutchinson, beginning with Friday night's trip to Nottingham Forest.
The 30-year-old told millwallfc.co.uk that despite the busy schedule early on in the campaign for the club, which involves five games in three weeks - and a possible sixth should The Lions advance to Round Two of the Carabao Cup - there is no substitute for being in the thick of the action.
"It's come around very quickly," he said. "We're going straight into Friday, Tuesday, Saturday, Tuesday and so on, so it's coming thick and fast. But I think I speak for the majority of the players when I say we'd rather be playing games than doing the slog and hard work of pre-season. We're all looking forward to it. We can't wait.
Webster also explained how Millwall's seven summer signings have added "quality" to the squad and have also knitted in to the group well.
"Neil Harris has brought in new faces and you can see the quality. The two full-backs were named in the League One Team of the Year.
"We've always had a good group in the last two or three years. We're close-knit and there's a lot of banter that goes on on and off the pitch. We enjoy it."
