Millwall to commend matchday medics

20 April 2017

Lions to present heroic team on the pitch

Millwall fans will have a chance to show their appreciation to the club's matchday medical team before Saturday's Sky Bet League One game against Oxford United.

Headed up by Professor Alison Leary, the team is made up of doctors, paramedics and nurses plus volunteers from the St John Ambulance charity. Last Friday, during the second-half of the game against Northampton Town, they were outstanding in their lengthy treatment of Lions fan Antony Murphy, who collapsed in The Dockers Stand and required immediate medical assistance. Antony remains in hospital in a serious condition and everyone associated with Millwall Football Club wishes him the very best in his continued recovery.

Lions chief executive Steve Kavanagh said: "I think we will all agree that Professor Alison Leary and her team deserve a tremendous amount of credit for their sheer professionalism and determination to help Antony Murphy as best they could in difficult circumstances.

"Our medical team are often called into action on matchdays at The Den but rarely in view of so many in the stadium. What they did to treat Antony was nothing short of spectacular and undoubtedly saved a Millwall fan in his time of need.

"I'm delighted to say that we'll be welcoming Alison and her team of medics onto the pitch shortly before kick-off on Saturday so that fans get a chance to show their appreciation."

Bucket collections will be held around the ground both to raise money for Alison's matchday team and for Antony himself. The unrivalled generosity of Millwall fans will be appreciated as always.
