Southend United v Millwall - the stats

13 September 2016

Facts and figures ahead of this weekend's big game

Millwall travel to Southend United on Saturday in search of a third straight win over the Essex club at Roots Hall.

The Lions won twice there last year - 2-0 in what was then called the Johnstone's Paint Trophy as well as an even more comfortable 4-0 success just three weeks later in regular League action.

Southend had been victorious in the reverse fixture at The Den earlier in 2015/16 (2-0), which was one of 26 wins The Shrimpers have picked up in 83 games against Millwall going back through the years. The Lions, however, have won 35 of those meetings, with the remaining 22 fixtures ending all square. All but three games between the two clubs have been in League action.

Phil Brown's side go into Saturday's match in need of some points after a frustrating start to the season. Southend have won just once in the League - 3-0 away to Sheffield United - and were beaten 4-0 by Scunthorpe last weekend. That defeat has contributed to The Shrimpers having, as it stands, the worst goal difference in League One at -7, compared to +2 for Neil Harris' men.
