Millwall fan's daring charity challenge
At the heart of every successful football club's Community Trust is a disability programme with a multitude of facets, dedicated coaches and a team of volunteers ready to go the extra mile who ensure training, games, tournaments and other social events take place and are enjoyable for everyone involved.
Millwall's own programme is no different, and one of its participants, Stephen Kilty, will certainly be going that extra mile along with 12 members of staff by undertaking a daunting charity challenge as he attempts to raise £10,000 for Millwall Community Trust.
The 21-year-old is a regular on the Trust's Disability Sports Development Programme and will be doing a sky dive from over 12,000 feet in October to help raise funds for a new mini bus. Money generated will also go towards the ongoing development and delivery of the disability programme, providing young people and adults free footballing opportunities they may never previously have had the chance to make the most of.
Stephen has loved playing football his whole life but during his early teenage years coaches at a local club gave up on him because he didn't like to share the ball. Not long after turning 14, Stephen was told he had autism and was forced to change schools, but that did little to dampen his enthusiasm for the beautiful game. After a spell playing for Margate, he began to get involved with Millwall Community Trust's disability sports scheme and recently Stephen and his twin brother Dominic (both pictured above) approached coach Ben Perryman with details of their bid to raise money for a mini bus so that others wanting to get involved, but without the necessary transport means, could do so.
