Millwall striker Gregory signs new contract

Lee extends his stay at The Den

Millwall forward Lee Gregory has signed a new contract which secures his future with the club until the summer of 2018.

The striker scored 27 goals last season as The Lions narrowly missed out on promotion to the Championship and has found the net a total of 37 times in his 98 Millwall appearances so far.

Gregory, 28, quickly established himself as a key man under boss Neil Harris and finished second in the club's Player of the Year vote for 2015/16.

"I'm very happy," he told millwallfc.co.uk after putting pen-to-paper.

"There was a lot of speculation about me going somewhere but this has cleared that up now. I'm with Millwall for the next two years and I'm happy with the new deal.

"The gaffer showed his faith in me as soon as he came in so it was good that I could repay him with the goals last year.

"I can't wait to get back out on the pitch to score some goals."

Neil Harris added: "There was interest in Lee over the course of the summer but he never expressed a desire to leave this club. Him committing his future to us is timely, a big boost for everybody and a sensible decision from the boy.

"He has played his best football under me and he is a big part of this squad. I'm really pleased and I know Lee is absolutely delighted.

"Lee was integral to us reaching the Play-Off Final and when he has not been available in the last couple of weeks we have missed him. He is at the peak of his career and credit must go to the chairman and the board for securing his future with the club."
