Match preview | Southend Utd v Millwall

16 September 2016

All you need to know ahead of Saturday's game

Millwall head to Essex on Saturday looking to record a third successive victory at Southend United and at the same time keep the pressure on League One leaders Bolton Wanderers.

Neil Harris' Lions boast an impressive record on the road and go into action against The Shrimpers targeting a sixth win in their last eight games away from SE16.

Since slipping to a 2-1 defeat at Coventry City back in April, Millwall have recorded five wins, one draw and just one defeat on their travels - at Peterborough United.

The Lions responded to that loss at Posh last month in perfect fashion by sweeping aside Chesterfield 3-1 in their next match away from The Den.

While manager Harris and his players have every reason to feel quietly optimistic of picking up points from a Southend United side who have taken one point from their opening three fixtures on home soil, they are well aware that there can be no room for complacency. The Shrimpers are desperate for a change in fortunes and victory for Phil Brown's side could move them out of the relegation zone. On the other hand a home defeat could send them to the bottom of the table.

Just under 2,000 Lions fans will be heading to Roots Hall hoping to witness another awayday special for their side who are third highest scorers in League One behind Scunthorpe and Peterborough United.

Sky Bet certainly favour a Millwall win, pricing The Lions at 10/11 to record a third successive victory at Roots Hall. Southend are priced at 3/1 to record a first home League win of the campaign, whilst Sky Bet are offering 5/2 for the two teams to share the spoils.

The Lions' last visit to the Essex coast proved to be a fruitful trip with goals from Joe Martin, Shaun Cummings, Fred Onyedinma and Aiden O'Brien securing a 4-0 result. You can get 40/1 for a repeat score, or 14/1 for Millwall to match their last result on the road - a 3-1 score at Chesterfield.

However if you reckon that Saturday's game is going to be an evenly fought affair, Sky Bet are offering 10/1 for a 0-0 draw, 11/2 for 1-1 and 12/1 for 2-2 with The Shrimpers 10/1 to edge a 1-0 success.

Aiden O'Brien was on target for Millwall in last Saturday's 1-1 draw with Coventry City and is priced at 5/1 to score first or last, plus 7/4 any time.

Top scorer Steve Morison is 11/8 with Sky Bet to score at any time during the 90 minutes and 4/1 to open or close the scoring.
