Lest We Forget - Millwall continue focus on Remembrance weekend

11 November 2016

The Lions will wear specially commissioned shirts with a poppy on the front against Bristol Rovers

Millwall will run out for Saturday's Sky Bet League One game against Bristol Rovers wearing specially commissioned shirts featuring a poppy prominently on the front as The Lions continue their focus on Remembrance weekend.

The shirts, along with a special 'Poppy' matchball, will then be auctioned off on with all proceeds being donated to the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal.

There will be a host of opportunities for everyone associated with the Club to show our appreciation and support of those who have served, and continue to serve, our country in the armed forces.

Sean McCarthy, awarded a British Empire Medal for his outstanding work as a poppy seller both at Cannon Street Station and Millwall FC, is unfortunately unable to attend tomorrow's match due to prior work commitments.

However, there will be an opportunity to purchase his hugely popular enamelled Millwall poppies by the Blue Bus from around 1.30pm until kick-off, with all monies raised going towards Sean's fund-raising total for the Royal British Legion.

Our special relationship with Headley Court will also be in evidence, with guests from the Rehabilitation Centre in attendance.

Cadets from Woolwich Barracks, who have forged a strong relationship with both the Football Club and Millwall Community Trust, will form a guard of honour as the players come out onto the pitch at 2.55pm, and will be joined by a handful of Junior Lions.

A wreath will be placed on the centre circle prior to the Last Post being played, the end of which will be marked by the referee's whistle - which also signals the beginning of a minute's silence.

The referee will blow his whistle twice to mark the end of the period of silence before the game starts.
