"I don't remember too much about the goal" says Mahlon Romeo

7 November 2016

Full-back's late strike a touch of class

Mahlon Romeo found the perfect time to net his first goal of the season with an 88th-minute winner to knock Southend United out of the Emirates FA Cup.

It was some strike too, and afterwards the young full back was naturally well pleased with the night's work.

He said:  "I'm happy to get the win most of all, we didn't really want a replay. It wasn't pretty but we ground out the result.

"The clean sheet was important. We've been working hard in training and Jordan Archer was outstanding.

"It was a physical game and hopefully Ben (Thompson) and Steve (Morison) will be ok.

"I don't remember too much about the goal. After the first touch it opened up for me and there was just one thing on my mind. A bit Emmanuel Petitesque you could say!"
