7 March 2016

Philpot at the double as young Lions ease to comfortable win against The Bees

Jamie Philpot helped himself to a brace and Kris Twardek bagged another as Millwall kept the pressure on U21 Professional Development League leaders Charlton Athletic with a comprehensive victory at Brentford's Jersey Road training ground.

Philpot, 19, who made his first senior home league appearance for The Lions against Blackpool at the weekend, was on hand to head home Millwall's opening goal on the half-hour mark with a smart finish from Kyron Farrell's deep free-kick.

The young striker doubled the visitors' tally four minutes after the break, keeping his cool to round Bees' keeper Tim Brown and calmly slotting home.

Brentford rarely tested Harry Girling in the Millwall goal with a lone strike from Andy Gogia their best effort of the game.

Twardek put the result beyond any doubt for The Lions, poking home from close range after another inviting Farrell delivery had caused problems for the Brentford defence.

The victory extended Millwall's unbeaten run in the League to 11 games and sets up an exciting season's finale with six games remaining.

Team: Girling, Brown, Wood, Donovan, Parr, Mbulu, Eze, Farrell, Philpot, Ndjoli, Twardek. Subs: O'Donnell, Sandford, Skinner, White, Bray.
