Millwall defender Romeo signs new long-term contract

Right-back Mahlon puts pen-to-paper

Mahlon Romeo has signed a new long-term contract at Millwall, committing himself to the club until June 2019.

The right-back moved to The Den last summer but had to wait until February to make his first team debut - marking his senior bow in style with a superb goal during the emphatic 3-0 victory away to Walsall.

Since then Romeo has made a further eight appearances and formed an integral part of the starting line-up which has climbed up to fifth in the Sky Bet League One table.

Moments after putting pen-to-paper, Romeo told "Naturally I'm very pleased to secure my future at the club which has given me my chance in senior football.

"I'd like to thank the manager and his coaching staff for showing faith in me ever since I moved to Millwall last summer.

"It's been brilliant to be a part of the first team set-up in recent months. There is a great group of lads here and I'm really excited about the rest of this season and the long-term future."

Neil Harris added: "Mahlon has seized his chance in the first team with both hands and really deserves this new contract, which I'm delighted has now been signed.

"Going back to last summer I said that the club would be giving its younger players a chance to continue their progress into the first team and Mahlon is one of a group of bright, talented players who have impressed me, my coaching staff and, importantly, the fans.

"Mahlon is a hard working young professional and we're very pleased that he is the latest to commit his long-term future to Millwall."
