Young defender looking forward to pre-season
Millwall right-back Mahlon Romeo is fit and raring to go for pre-season after enjoying a successful stint on international duty.
Earlier this month the 20-year-old played for Antigua & Barbuda against Puerto Rico and Grenada, winning the latter game 5-1 in a result which booked his country's spot in the next round of qualifying for the Caribbean Cup.
And fresh from his latest international exploits, Romeo is excited to return to Calmont Road on 1st July alongside his Millwall team-mates as preparations for the 2016/17 season begin.
"It was great to play in a couple of really important games for my country," he told millwallfc.co.uk.
"The tempo of the matches was completely different to what I have been more used to in League games for Millwall, which was an enjoyable challenge and more important experience for me.
"Our team is made up of boys who play in England and those who do over there, and it's a good mix with a great spirit.
"I'm delighted that we've progressed in qualifying and on a personal level it's good to have been able to keep myself ticking over fitness-wise ahead of the start of pre-season, which I'm buzzing for.
"All of the lads will be excited to come back and get going again. Hopefully we can build on the progress we made last season and use the experience of what happened at Wembley to our advantage.
"We will be working very hard to make sure we can get some momentum early on."
Romeo missed out on Millwall's Play-Off campaign after being sent off against Gillingham on the last day of the regular season, but the defender says he feels better for going through what was a challenging experience.
"I have taken a lot from what happened," he added.
"It was certainly a big learning curve and I'm sure that I will be a better player for it.
"I have put the incident behind me now and am looking forward to getting back out there in a Millwall shirt with the rest of the boys.
"Last season was so memorable for me. I want to keep improving as a player and to help the team try and go one better next May."
