Winger impresses despite defeat to Poland
Millwall's Shane Ferguson featured from the start as Northern Ireland were beaten 1-0 by Poland in their European Championships Group C opener on Sunday evening. The 24-year-old lined up on the left-hand side of midfield but his duties were mainly defensive ones as Poland dominated large parts of the game, particularly in the opening half. Michael O'Neill's side's resolve lasted until the 51st minute, when the lively Arkadiusz Milik fired home, and a talented Polish team held on for victory in Nice.
Ferguson, who was replaced by Conor Washington shortly after the hour mark, will hope to again be in the starting line-up when Northern Ireland return to action against Ukraine in Lyon on Thursday.
