Best of the action as Twardek goal extends unbeaten run to eight games

Kris Twardek's second-half header wasn't enough as Cardiff City grabbed a late leveller to deny Millwall U21s an eighth successive Elite Development Squad victory at Calmont Road.

The young Lions went into action having won all seven of their previous League and Cup encounters, and with confidence high in the camp.

Justin Skinner's charges had a great opportunity to break the deadlock in the first half from the penalty spot. Paris Cowan-Hall was fouled in the danger zone and up stepped Jamie Philpot to take the resulting spot kick.

Unfortunately the young striker's crisply struck effort smashed against keeper Ben Wilson's left-hand post and away to safety.

The Bluebirds enjoyed a fair amount of possession during the opening half, but rarely troubled keeper Tom King in the home goal.

Czech Republic youth international Twardek was on hand to finally make the all-important breakthrough with a clinical close-range header in the second period and put Millwall within touching distance of an amazing eighth win in a row.

Sadly Cardiff proved to be party poopers and Macauley Southam popped up right at the death to grab an equaliser which on reflection although the visitors probably deserved, was still a bitter pill to swallow for Lions boss Skinner who had seen his side come within a whisker of claiming all three points.
