Lions prospect signs 28-day youth loan at Vanarama National League

Millwall centre-half Paul Rooney has penned a 28-day youth loan with Vanarama National League side Torquay United.

The 19-year-old defender joined The Lions in the summer following a spell with Bohemians, and has featured regularly for Justin Skinner's Development Squad.

Paul, who stands at 6ft 5in, made his senior first-team debut in November's 3-1 Checkatrade Trophy win at Luton and was an unused sub in Millwall's 4-0 League One victory 4-0 success against Bristol Rovers.

His move to Plainmoor will see Rooney follow in the illustrious footsteps of former Millwall skipper Paul Robinson, who had a loan spell in 2004-5, making 12 appearances for The Gulls. Robbo returned to The Den with vital match experience under his belt, and the rest, as they say, is history.

More recently, striker John Marquis (now at Doncaster) had a five game spell in Devon in 2013, scoring three goals whilst The Lions current top scorer, Aiden O'Brien, made three substitute appearances for The Gulls back in early 2014.

Paul is in line to make his debut for Torquay this weekend when they are in FA Trophy action at Braintree Town, ironically the team Millwall beat in last Sunday's FA Cup Second Round at The Den!
