Millwall U23s set for first League fixture

12 August 2016

Young Lions facing The Owls at Hillsborough

Millwall's U23 side play their first game of the 2016/17 Professional Development League season away to Sheffield Wednesday on Friday afternoon (2pm).

The young Lions face The Owls at Hillsborough in a game which will mark a first competitive outing for summer signings Paul Rooney and Harry Smith. Several other familiar names will also be involved, including the likes of Kris Twardek, Noah Chesmain, James Brown and Alfie Pavey.

Justin Skinner, manager of the club's Development side, is looking forward to their season opener and expects the experience of playing at Hillsborough to stand his players in good stead.

"We're really excited the season is finally upon us," he told millwallfc.co.uk.

"Pre-season has gone well and the players look really fit and sharp ahead of the first game.

"We know that Sheffield Wednesday will be tough opposition, particularly at Hillsborough. It's a fantastic stadium and probably the biggest that many of the boys have played at before, so the challenge for them is to embrace that and then focus on performing to the best of their abilities.

"Hopefully they will come away from the experience better players which would set them up nicely going into more fixtures in the coming weeks and months."

The squad is as follows: Sandford, Girling, Brown, McNamara, Bray, Rooney, Chesmain, Twardek, Donovan, White, Ebuzoeme, Pavey, Smith, Mundle-Smith
