Harris 'delighted' with opening day success

Millwall boss happy with 3-0 win but looking for improvements

Lions boss Neil Harris was pleased with his side's opening day victory over Oldham Athletic, but knows they can play better and that there will be sterner challenges to come.

"I'm delighted with the three points and with the performance for the first 50 minutes," he said. "After that I thought, perhaps not surprisingly, given it was the first game of the season on a sticky pitch in that heat, we took our foot off the pedal.

"Our decision making was poor at 3-0 up, and we could have scored more goals. However, it was great to get off the mark with three points on the board.

"Lee Gregory is feeling his groin/hip area so we will have to see how he is, but he's probably a doubt for Tuesday. I thought David Worrall was excellent. You can see his energy levels and his delivery into the box is very good.

"Now the focus moves on to the Barnet game on Tuesday, and I guess we do owe them one after last season. It's the same stage of the same competition and we want to win it. However, I will need to make a few changes, but that gives some of those not in the starting line-up against Oldham, an opportunity.

"I'm hopeful that we'll be adding (striker) Harry Smith to the group in the near future. He has done really well for us on trial and we have agreed a fee with Folkestone for his services. It's just a question of tying up a few loose ends, but a deal is never done until the paperwork is signed."
